People in France usually eat three meals a day: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Catering is managed by the CROUS of Rennes-Bretagne, i.e. the student welfare office, which aims to improve the living and working conditions of students, especially with accommodation, grants and catering services.

“Doctorants” (PhD students) have the student status and can therefore benefit from the services provided by the CROUS and can especially eat in the “Restos U” (university canteens).

The R.U. is the cheapest way to eat a well-balanced meal. The student card is required to buy tickets (on sale at the R.U or at the CROUS for less than 3€) but it is also possible to pay in cash in most “Restos U”. Other researchers can also eat at the R.U. but they do not benefit from the same tariff as students. Ask your institution if there is a restaurant for the staff.

University restaurants are usually open from Monday to Friday or Saturday.
