You have two options: council flat ( HLM - Habitation à Loyer Modéré) or private housing.

  To be eligible for a HLM, you must have a residence permit valid for more than three months and your income must be lower than a legal maximum. The waiting time can be several months long, depending on availability in the chosen area. It is therefore advised to apply to several companies managing HLM and also at the city hall.
